The 21st Football World Cup, organised by FIFA from 14 June to 15 July 2018, saw France crowned World Champions, after beating Croatia in the final. This planetary event brought together the 32 best national football teams in the world and was held in 12 different venues around Russia.

1.8 million visitors from around the world

This year, some 1.8 million visitors came from around the world to discover (or rediscover) the city of Lyon transformed with illuminations over the course of four evenings of celebrations.

For the occasion, GL events Audiovisual provided its expertise and skills for several artistic projects in different venues around the city.

The last games involving Usain Bolt

There was plenty of emotion at this year’s 16th World Athletics Championships, the last games involving Usain Bolt who had announced his retirement after more than 10 years breaking records on the track. The French athletes Pierre-Ambroise Bosse and Kevin Mayer were crowned world champions in the 800m and the decathlon respectively, a first for these two young athletes, just 25 years of age.

GL events demonstrated the true extent of its expertise

The final phase of the 2017 America’s Cup was held in the magnificent Bermuda archipelago from 26 May to 27 June. Emirates Team from New Zealand sailed to victory in the final race against defending champion Oracle Team USA. With a score of 7 to 1, New Zealand won the Cup for the third time in its history.

This year, the French and Emirati authorities decided to set up the “Emirati French Cultural Programme - Dialogue with the Louvre Abu Dhabi” to accompany the opening of the Abu Dhabi Louvre.

With its 6 oases listed on the UNESCO World Heritage registry, Al Aïn will host a series of cultural events combining the traditions of France and the United Arab Emirates. The cultural programme includes classical and modern music shows, equestrian performing arts, plastic arts and firework displays.

The cream of European gastronomy on the road to the final

On 10 and 11 May 2016, Budapest hosted the Bocuse d’Or Europe continental selection bringing together the most talented European chefs at the Hungexpo Exhibition Park. The competition took place during the Sirha Budapest, Hungary's leading international food services trade fair, which attracted almost 400 exhibitors and 20,000 trade visitors.
