On November 3, after eight days and 30 top-tier matches, the 2019 Shiseido · Shenzhen WTA Finals concluded at China Resources Shenzhen Bay Sports Center. Australian player Ashleigh Barty, having secured the world No. 1 ranking, also claimed the championship trophy of the inaugural edition. In doubles, the defending champions Tímea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic extended their winning streak at the WTA Finals to eight consecutive victories, becoming the first pair in 11 years to successfully defend a doubles title at the Finals.
As the year-end finale of the WTA tour, the inaugural Shiseido · Shenzhen WTA Finals demonstrated an organizational standard matching the event’s elite status. The organizing committee showcased international-level capabilities in event operations, on-site services, and facilities. A massive 38.5m × 11.5m screen, erected for the occasion, captured every exciting moment and provided a theater-like viewing experience through real-time interaction.
A newly constructed suite area offered an exclusive watching environment. For the players, personalized locker rooms designed with distinctive charm, a pink-themed gym catering to female athletes’ preferences, a 24-hour player dining area, a player lounge equipped with makeup artists and manicure services, and the thoughtfully designed “Path to the Court” entrance ceremony all reflected the event’s attentive service. In the media working area, a large balcony on the second floor overlooked the player training courts, allowing journalists to write articles, capture videos, and gather content while enjoying a relaxed atmosphere. Additionally, the organizing committee set up a VIP dining area in one of the venue’s passageways. Adorned with event-themed decorative paintings, starry lighting, and highly praised cuisine, this space became another popular highlight of the venue, attracting numerous visitors and positive feedback.
